The Drakensberg, meaning Dragon Mountains in Afrikaans, covers 1125 km (700 miles) from the southeastern to the northern part of South Africa. It reaches heights of 3475 metres (11400 ft) is known as uKhahlamba (Barrier of Spears) by the Zulu people. The most spectacular part of the Drakenberg Mountains along the KwaZulu Natal western border also includes the highest peaks.
The central and southern Drakensberg is an easy 2,5-hour drive from the city of Durban and is truly a hiker’s paradise. But there are countless other activities on offer, some more strenuous and adventurous than others.
