Port Elizabeth, officially renamed Gqeberha, is known amongst the locals as PE and is also called Nelson Mandela Bay. It is one of South Africa’s large cities situated along the south-eastern coast of the country. Often referred to as the ‘Friendly City’ it is primarily a holiday destination with open sandy beaches and temperate weather. PE is the economic hub for the locals in the area and further inland. The city also effectively demarcates the eastern border of the scenic Garden Route and places itself as a perfect beginning or end to a tour through this scenic wonderland! It is the destination of family fun on the beaches, street markets and eateries, offering a huge culinary diversity - often with a prominent Indian flavour. The famous Bunny Chow, a curry and bread dish, originated from here! It's an international air and sea entry port and gateway to excellent safari opportunities.
