Lion Kill in Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park
Taki Christodoulou, our experienced tour guide, led the Great Wildlife African Expedition tour on 2nd June to 7th June 2014. On their first day of the trip while visiting the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve they had a rare lion kill sighting.
“While doing a game drive in the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve we came upon a lioness stalking a warthog. We watched her for over an hour as she stalked the warthog before attacking him and killing him. An incredible start to the 6-day tour.”

Are is some interesting information about lions and their social behaviour. Lions are the only cats that have a strong social structure and live in groups, called prides. A pride may comprise anywhere from two to 40 lions—including up to four males, many females, and their young. The lionesses are almost always related, and female cubs typically stay with the group as they age. Young males leave and establish their own prides, often by taking over a group headed by another male.
Although in this instance a solitary lion hunted, hunting is often a group effort with a lot of squabbling afterwards. The males normally get to eat first however and then the females and young.
