6 Day Great African Wildlife Expedition – Solo (Codo: SCMD/S)

DAY 1. Johannesburg – Panoramic Route (Wildlife Safari Tour) Our first day on this amazing wildlife safari tour takes us from Johannesburg via Middelburg, Dullstroom and Robber’s Pass to Pilgrim´s Rest, the early gold mining town turned into a living museum. Rich deposits of alluvial gold were found here at the end of the 19th century, hence the existence of the town deep in the mountains. After exploring this quaint old town, we continue to Sabie where we have a pleasant walk through indigenous forest to visit Lone Creek Falls. Overnight Ligna Lodge. DAY 2. Panoramic Route – Private Reserve After breakfast, travel via Graskop to marvel at scenic areas such the Pinnacle, God’s Window, Lisbon Falls, Bourke’s Luck Potholes (a walk down the hill to this unique trick of nature is worth the effort), and the magnificent Three Rondavels view site at the Blyde River Canyon. We walk along the cliffs to really appreciate the breathtaking views.  Later, we descend to the Lowveld via Abel Erasmus pass and the Strijdom Tunnel. Arrive at Mohlabetsi in the Balule private game reserve,  a part of the Greater Kruger National Park. Day 2.  Luxurious Kruger National Park Safari Today we devote to game viewing and we search for the ‘Big Five’ amongst other animals. We reach our camp at sunset for dinner and overnight. Some may want to do a night drive in an open game viewing vehicle utilising high powered spotlights to find the nocturnal animals (optional). Day 3.  Panoramic Route After a final game drive and breakfast, we leave the park and drive via Klaserie and the Abel Erasmus Pass to the Escarpment and visit Blyde River Canyon, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, God’s Window and the Pinnacle Rock. DAY 1 St Lucia – Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park – Private Reserve (Wildlife safari and scenery) Our first day on this wildlife safari and scenery tour takes us northwards towards the subtropical coast and bushveld of Zululand – home of the mighty Zulu nation and visit the village of St Lucia for a boat cruise on the estuary of the famous lake St Lucia (proclaimed a World Heritage Site in December 1999). Crocodiles, hippos and wildlife including birds such as the fish eagle are in abundance. After lunch (optional) we travel to the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park, where the rhino was saved from extinction and home to the shy nyala and the Big Five. We exit the park early evening and drive to our private lodge for dinner and overnight at Zulu Nyala Game Lodge. DAY 2  Swaziland We join and early morning open vehicle safari to search for the African wildlife awakening. After breakfast we head northwards and continue to Swaziland. We enter at the Onverwacht border post and follow a scenic route via Nhlangano to Manzini, where crossing every hill leads to a new vista. We stop in the Malkerns Valley for some excellent shopping opportunities. Apart from Swazi Candles, where the locals hand-mould wax into a wide variety of colourful candles, there is also a hand-craft market, a batik factory outlet, and other interesting shops. DAY 3  Kruger National Park Today we travel through the capital of Swaziland, Mbabane, and visit the Ngwenya Glass factory further on, where all products are hand made from recycled glass. 3 Day Natal Battlefields Guided Tour – Solo

DAY 1  Durban – Pietermaritzburg – Spionkop – Ladysmith – Dundee We travel westwards to Pietermaritzburg, the capital of KwaZulu-Natal, for a brief city tour. Stop at the railway station where Mahatma Gandhi was thrown off the train because of the colour of his skin, and see the waiting room, where in the silence of the night he formulated his philosophy of passive resistance. Visit the Church of the Vow that was built as a result of the Battle of Blood River between the Voortrekkers and the Zulus in 1838. Then onwards to the hills where the Battle of Spioenkop took place. Here, famous personalities like Winston Churchill, Mahatma Gandhi and General Louis Botha, were active in different capacities.  Standing on the battlefield, the terrible incident unfolds again. At Ladysmith we visit the Siege Museum for an insight into the siege of Ladysmith and stories of suffering and heroism. Our overnight stop is outside Dundee after a quick visit to Talana Battlefield – the first battle of the Anglo-Boer War. Overnight At the Battlefields Lodge. DAY 2  Rorke’s Drift – Isandlwana – Blood River This morning we cover the famous and awe inspiring battlefields of Rorke’s Drift and Isandlwana. It is also one of the only battlefields where you get a glimpse of both sides’ perspective. Return to your lodge. DAY 1 – Zulu Cultural Village – St Lucia – Rhino River Lodge Our experience of the wildlife and culture of Zululand begins when we travel north towards the subtropical coast and bushveld of Zululand, the place of the mighty Zuku nation and abundant wildlife. We join a boat cruise on Lake St Lucia, a natural paradise around which five complete ecosystems exist. An abundance of bird life, hippo and crocodiles exist here and we have a chance to find them. After lunch (not included) we depart for our private reserve and after check in. Later join an open vehicle safari where close encounters with the African wildlife commences. We pass through grassy plains scattered with villages and lush farmlands where plump cattle and thoroughbred horses graze. Visit the spot where the Boers arrested Winston Churchill during the Anglo-Boer War. We enter the Spionkop Game Reserve for some  game viewing. We have a good chance to see white rhino, giraffe and zebra amongst other wildlife.Then we travel to our hotel from where you can enjoy magnificent views while enjoying sundowners.
