Experience

DAY 1    Durban – Pietermaritzburg –  Drakensberg Mountains

Drive inland to Pietermaritzburg, the capital of KwaZulu-Natal, for a brief city tour. First of all we visit the railway station where Mahatma Gandhi was thrown off the train because of the colour of his skin.  We enter the waiting room where, in the silence of the night, he formulated his philosophy of passive resistance.  Continue to Howick where we visit the 100m high Falls. We visit the monument erected on the spot where Nelson Mandela was arrested in 1962.

Continue to the Drakensberg Mountains through an area of gentle pastoral beauty called the Natal Midlands. We pass through grassy plains scattered with villages and lush farmlands where plump cattle and thoroughbred horses graze. Visit the spot where the Boers arrested Winston Churchill during the Anglo-Boer War. We enter the Spionkop Game Reserve for some  game viewing. We have a good chance to see white rhino, giraffe and zebra amongst other wildlife.Then we travel to our hotel from where you can enjoy magnificent views while enjoying sundowners.

DAY 2   Northern Drakensberg Mountains – Golden Gate

After breakfast we travel through Qwa Qwa, a former homeland, and watch the locals busy with their daily chores.  We continue to the Golden Gate National Park and see amazing views of the black basalt and golden sandstone cliffs which gave its name to the park. Afterwards we enjoy a light lunch. We round the day off with a visit to a cultural village. Here we experience  demonstrations of the local people’s culture. Return to your hotel late afternoon.

DAY 3    Drakensberg – Giant’s Castle – Rock Art

We depart after breakfast we drive to the Giant’s Castle Complex. Here we embark on a walk with a few steep and strenuous inclines to some of the country’s best preserved ancient rock paintings. The roundtrip is around 3 km. We have a peek into the mystical existence of these extraordinary little people who nearly became extinct at the beginning of the previous century. From here we return to Durban arriving late afternoon.

NOTE: We also offer the Drakensberg Highlights tour (two days) where we visit the southern part of this mighty mountain range and we ascend to the top of the mountain with a 4 x 4 vehicle and have a pub lunch in the highest pub in Africa! See the itinerary here.

DAY 1. Johannesburg – Panoramic Route (Wildlife Safari Tour) Our first day on this amazing wildlife safari tour takes us from Johannesburg via Middelburg, Dullstroom and Robber’s Pass to Pilgrim´s Rest, the early gold mining town turned into a living museum. 4 Day Kruger Park Explorer Tour – Solo

Day 1.  Johannesburg – Kruger National Park We embark on the Kruger Park Safari by driving eastwards via Witbank and Middelburg to Nelspruit and enter the Kruger National Park in the south.  Our encounter with the wild life starts here as we begin our  thrilling Kruger National Park safari. Tonight we enter our camp for dinner and overnight. We overnight in our comfortable free-standing ‘rondavel’ type room with air-conditioning and en-suite bathroom. Day 2.  Luxurious Kruger National Park Safari Today we devote to game viewing and we search for the ‘Big Five’ amongst other animals. We reach our camp at sunset for dinner and overnight. Some may want to do a night drive in an open game viewing vehicle utilising high powered spotlights to find the nocturnal animals (optional). Day 3.  Panoramic Route After a final game drive and breakfast, we leave the park and drive via Klaserie and the Abel Erasmus Pass to the Escarpment and visit Blyde River Canyon, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, God’s Window and the Pinnacle Rock. Travel to Sabie where we overnight. Overnight Ligna Lodge. Day 4.  Pilgrim’s Rest – JNB Our first stop is at the Lone Creek falls. We then visit the town of Pilgrim’s Rest, the museum. Take a walk through the main street and get carried away to the late nineteenth century when this little village was bustling with activity as a result of the alluvial gold found here before returning to Johannesburg, arriving late afternoon.

3 Day Kruger National Park Explorer Tour – Solo

DAY 1.   Johannesburg – Kruger Park Our first day on tour to the Kruger Park takes us from Johannesburg via Middelburg and Nelspruit to the famous Kruger National Park. Enter in the south where our encounter with Africa’s amazing wildlife commences. We search for the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo) amongst many other species of animals such as giraffe, zebra and antelope such as kudu, nyala, impala, etc, etc. Arrive at the camp late afternoon for dinner and overnight. Overnight in a Bungalow. DAY 2.  Kruger Safari Tour We devote today to game viewing in search of the Kruger National Park’s ‘Big Five’ amongst other animals. We arrive back at our camp at sunset for dinner and overnight. An optional night drive in an open safari vehicle utilising high powered spotlights to find the nocturnal animals is available.  Overnight in a bungalow.
